Welcome

Are you, or someone you care about, considering counselling?

I am here to help. I draw on a variety of counselling approaches and techniques in order to help you to use both your mind and heart, your reason and emotion, as you deal with whatever situation is challenging you.

I have been a registered psychologist in BC Since September 2012.

I completed an M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology in 1991 and, following a one year internship under supervision and further exams, became a Psychologist in Alberta.  From 1992 to 1997, I worked as a Psychologist at Cornerstone Counselling Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

From 1997 to 2009, I had a private counselling practice as a Clinical Counsellor in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. At that time I was not a psychologist because I do not have a Ph.D. After taking time off to travel with my family, I began a counselling practice in Victoria in 2011 and in 2012 I was able to transfer my qualifications as a psychologist in Alberta to become a psychologist in B.C..

Over the years, I have attended professional workshops to maintain and enhance my skills. In 2004, I received training in a special technique for dealing specifically with traumatic memories. Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) can be very helpful both to clients with recent traumatic experiences and to those with traumatic memories from the past. While it can be very helpful for those with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), you do not have to have PTSD to find TIR helpful; any memory that is interfering with your life can be helped with this technique. I have used TIR and related trauma related techniques to help individuals who have been in vehicle accidents and experienced work related injuries. I have also used it to help people who were abused as children or who lost loved ones and could not get over their shock and grief.

Over the past 20 years, I have also done extensive training in attachment theory through the Neufeld Institute and this has become fundamental to my understanding of emotions, relationships, and the process of how people both grow and heal. While I draw upon a variety of psychological techniques and theories, I consider attachment theory to be the foundation on which I build.

For those who wish, I am also experienced at providing counselling from a Christian faith perspective.
